About

I began exploring survival garments in the late 1990’s by customizing my consumer-grade outdoor clothing for mountaineering and a series of solo Winter Arctic expeditions in Iceland and Alaska. Since then I have shifted mainly into aerospace garments, in particular, pressurized training and flight garments. I’ve been lucky to learn pressurized suit design, fabrication and testing from original project Apollo engineers, and have consulted widely in the small world of the ‘Dark Arts’ of pressurized garments. Today I apply these many experiences in making SEG garments and suits for my own high-altitude flying expeditions, supported by the private think tank, Pacific Spaceflight. I also work on the philosophy of space suits, and develop pressurized suits, as co-Director of the University of Arizona’s Center for Human Space Exploration.
